DON AND MARY DOCTOR
BLUMENTHAL PERFORMING ARTS

As a young man growing up in rural Indiana, Don Doctor had little exposure to performing arts. It was a passion he would discover later in life and one he would share with his wife, Mary. Today, through the Doctor Family Foundation’s partnership with Blumenthal Performing Arts, the couple ensures that young people in Charlotte have what eluded Doctor in his early years: the opportunity to experience the performing arts firsthand and to use that experience to energize and inspire their lives.

Recently, the Doctor Family Foundation awarded 12 local high school students with an all-expense-paid trip to New York City as part of the Expanding Horizons: Broadway Experience Program. The students enjoyed two hit Broadway shows, met with cast members and crew and reflected upon the experience by documenting their trip.

In addition to introducing young people to the performing arts, the Doctor Family Foundation takes an active role in providing students with the opportunity to pursue their passion of a career in the performing arts field. The Foundation created a scholarship fund with the Cultural Trust that supports scholarships for deserving area students looking to study performing arts in college or university.
